Dr. Jennifer Teigen, left, and Onnalee Wayne of Topline Equine Veterinary Care in Glenwood City have enjoyed babysitting rare twin foals, Jewel and Bill, the past few weeks while their mare, Lilly, is being bred. The twins were born at the Jeff and Melissa Clark farm near Cumberland.

Knowing the rarity of full-term twins in horses and after only one foal showed up on ultrasound, twins were the last thing Melissa Clark was expecting when her mare, Lilly, went into labor.
The odds of a mare successfully foaling live twins is estimated at about one in every 10,000 births.
