WEYAUWEGA — “Look at the handsome boy. Isn’t he a beauty?” Jim Hofferber cooed to the sleek cougar peering at him through the wires of a repurposed corn crib.
For a man who spent more than half of his 66 years working with hard concrete, gravel and steel, the Weyauwega native is a real softy about the 400-or-so animals he and his wife, Dawn, have collected for more than 20 years in their Animal Haven Zoo.
