The Country Today's office in downtown Eau Claire has become something of a hornet hotel. For the last three weeks or so, we've been fending off hornets descending from the fluorescent lights. Our brave inside-sales rep is the go-to girl with the fly swatter -- when another bee is floating around I yell for her help. She has no problem smashing the pests while I take cover.

The maintenance team has searched literally high and low for a nest inside the building, to no avail. One nest was removed from the roof, but the hornets just keep multiplying. Our running tally stands at more than 40 killed with the swatter or vacuum. Ours is the only department with this insect infestation. I think some of the other employees think we're nuts.
